The French School System

The French Academy of Minnesota is accredited by the French Ministry of Education. In France, school begins at age three. Pre-Elementary School, known as "Maternelle", is for children aged 3 (33 months actually) to 5. Pre-Elementary School is broken down into three sections according to age:

• Petite Section (pre-school) – 33 months/4

• Moyenne Section (pre-kindergarten) – ages 4/5

• Grande Section (kindergarten) – 5/6 (French language experience required)
